The biggest ever Faroese financial initiative was put into effect today. Starting ultimo 2009, they will make a tunnel between Streymoy and Sandoy, and the cost will be approx. 690 mio. kr. (136363168.11 USD.). This is a part of a larger plan, which involves a subsea-tunnel to Suðuroy, somewhere in a fairly distant future.
690 KR = ~136.8 USD

How long is this tunnel suppose to be?? I don't understand the cost. Here we are looking at replacing one of our bridges (2310 meters) over a lake at a cost of 3.4 - 4.4 BILLION dollars. (17,000,000,000 - 22,000,000,000 DK) It just seems that the cost for your tunnel is nothing compared to what we look at the cost over here.
ReplyDeleteA tunnel to Suðuroy? Dang! That could set you back some Kroners.
ReplyDeleteThe tunnel to Sandoy is an estimated 10 kilometres long.
ReplyDeleteThat's nothing compared to a tunnel to Suduroy. Depending on how it was built we could be talking well over 20K. A small chunnel.
ReplyDeleteI'm normally a commentator here, but I'm so fascinated with all the tunnels linking the various parts of the islands.
Um... NOT normally a commentator here...
